Quotations are hereby invited for the following: The appointment of an electrical engineer to design, implement and perform project management in the procurement and installation of a battery bank for the existing photovoltaic/solar grid system at the Head Office of the National Research Foundation in Brummeria, Pretoria. Scope: The National research foundation (NRF) requires a qualified Electrical engineer to provide the following services in respect of the NRF`s Photovoltaic system: 1. The Electrical Engineer must advise the NRF on the best location to use for the Photovoltaic battery bank storage and advice on the suitability to use the prosed basement storeroom. 2. The Electrical Engineer to advise the NRF on the suitability of the current solar inverter system to the proposed battery storage. 3. The Electrical Engineer must design and implement a Battery backup system generating an output of 210KWH, to produce 6 hours of electricity to the NRF. The system must be integrated into the existing Photovoltaic grid system comprising both the East and West wing of the NRF. 4. Conferring with the NRF representative to discuss existing electrical infrastructure and determine the best way to save electrical consumption. 5. Ensuring that the installation and operations of the solar battery bank backup system conform to standards and NRF’s requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications and technical drawings. 6. Establishing the design/construction and installation standards or specifications of Photovoltaic battery bank grid tied system by performing a wide range of detailed analysis and calculations. 7. Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or NRF requirements by directing or coordinating installation, construction, maintenance, documentation, support or testing activities. 8. The engineer must verify that the solar battery bank backup system has been properly installed to ensure reliable operation. 9. The Electrical Engineer must provide technical assistance to the NRF in the procurement process of appointing qualified electrical contractors. 10. The Electrical Engineer must act as the principal agent in supervising the entire electrical aspects of the project. 11. The Electrical Engineer must verify that the delivery and workmanship are in line with the specifications set out for the electrical aspects of the project. 12. The Electrical Engineer must verify the contractor’s work and Certificate of Compliance (CoC) at the final handover stage. 13. The Electrical Engineer must sign-off on the design and installation work and that delivery has met the set specifications after project finalization. 14. The appointed electrical engineer or firm acting as a principal agent on behalf of the NRF is not allowed to bid as the electrical contractor during the procurement process for the installation of solar battery bank backup system. 15. The appointed electrical engineer or firm acting as a principal agent on behalf of the NRF must disclose any interest in contractors that may bid for the main supply & installation bid.
