The University of Zululand (UNIZULU) seeks to lease student accommodation from owners of accommodation (excluding leasing agents) situated within 30Km radius of its Kwa-Dlangezwa and Richards Bay Campuses and invites interested parties to bid to contract for this service for a period of three (3) years. The premises must be able to accommodate at least 25 students and be ready for occupation from 11 March 2022. The annual occupation of the premises will only be for 10 months and monthly rental payments will be for occupied rooms only. Re-advertisment: Proposals are hereby invited to appoint a service provider to undertake an agricultural pilot study for the development of Marula tree orchards. Scope of work: The IDC on behalf of DSI and TIA would like to invite suitable service providers with extensive knowledge of Anacardiaceae family to submit proposals to carry out the following: • Conduct an on-farm agricultural pilot study which will run over a period of five (5) years; • Set aside a one-hectare (1 Ha) site for the pilot study to be rented to the project for a period of five (5) years; • Provide nursery capabilities for the propagation, growing and storage of planting material for a period of five (5) years; • Develop site and facility plan (including layout); • Site and facility preparation; • Acquisition of marula planting material (seedlings, rootstock and scion) for grafting and liaising with other stakeholders in the pilot study thereof; • Grafting of trees and planting of trees; • Manage and harvest the fully planted pilot site; • Manage the operation cost of the pilot site in line with the budget; • Take care of the harvested fruits for the processing research team (to be appointed) of the pilot study; • Produce a stable yield (crop reliability) and demonstrate innovation that can improve yields in the five-year period; • Collection of agronomic data (soil management, crop production, cultivars, irrigation, herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers) of fruit bearing Marula trees; • Identify community members that will participate in the programme to plant the grafted trees in their yards/farms; • Donate Marula plants on the farm that does not meet the research criteria for further propagation to the community; • Annually collect agricultural research data from these communities on the performance of the trees; • Submit and present monthly technical and progress reports; • Report any cost variation on the pilot research to the Steering Committee; • Liaise with the Project Manager (to be appointed) of the pilot study and the Steering Committee on a regular basis; • Submit and present annual technical and progress reports; and • Develop, submit and present the final Agriculture Report at the end of the study period.
