Proposals are hereby invited for the following: Provision of white metal furnace refurbishment and modification required at the CSIR’s Mining Testing laboratories in Cottesloe, Johannesburg. Scope of work: The activities required to carry out the refurbishment and modification are as follows but not limited to: • Removal of foreign and redundant items from the furnace; • Design and manufacture a hood with a close/open operation that is off centre to make it easily possible to dip the ropes in and out using an overhead crane, and that will accommodate the extraction duct and spout mechanism. See Figure 3A & B for reference; • Removal of the hood and extraction duct; • Detailed inspection of the furnace structure and issue report that covers: - Structural integrity; - Corrosion test (NDT); • Electrical control and supply system test; - Inspection and testing of the electrical wiring between the distribution board and furnace; - Thermocouple testing and calibration; - Heating element testing for serviceability; - Temperature controller - replace analog with digital technology similar or better than what is in use in the other furnaces in the laboratory; - Installation of a timer control unit; • Fabrication or replacement of the spout mechanism; • Installation of a spout heating element to prevent the white metal from solidifying; • Operational test of the spout system with a heating element; • Operational check of the furnace with white metal; • Installation of the manufactured hood as described and ensure alignment with the existing extraction ducting; • Connect the extraction cowl to the extraction ducting; • On-site system testing and commissioning.
